Nikon D100 / D70 / D50 / D200 (RAW) Settings
Shooting NEF (Raw) format gives you the absolute best
files, sharper and gives you better control options on post processing.
I sometimes will increase up to 1/2 f/stop to get better exposure.
My Personal

Normal Flash DTTL (Non Matrix)
Fill Flash DTTL Matrix
Post Processing
None 90% of the time.

Open in Nikon Capture 4 correct Shadow Detail with Digital DDE,
Sharpen & W/B if needed resave the .NEF output as .tiff or hi jpg
file.
Open in Photoshop CS edit everything else, crop and resize if needed and
save as tiff. Nikon D100 / D70 /

I don't feel the camera is
underexposing but is metering for the whites so the photo may look dark.
If you look at your photo the whites are exposed correctly 98% of the
time.
If you shoot RAW files use the new DDE feature to correct the exposure in
Nikon Capture 4.
Feel the jpg shots from your Nikon D100, D70, D50,
D200 are
underexposed?.
This curve tested Indoors/Outdoors & with flash seems to work good in most conditions
with very good exposure all around.
